Helsinki to Riga by cruise

BOOK IT NOW!

The long-awaited Helsinki-Riga cruise day trip is back!  It can be booked through Tallink/Silja Line’s website here.

At least I booked, because I have been waiting for this ever since I missed my chance in the 2021 summer.  For some reason, they only offer very few of these day trips —- three departures per summer.  This year, it is Jun 6, Jun 27 and July 7.  Basically depart from Helsinki on Friday late afternoon, arrive at Riga in the morning the next day.  Spend about 8 hours in Riga, then go back to the cruise by 18:10 to sail to Helsinki.  At last arrive at Helsinki in Sunday afternoon.  This is a quiet convenient weekend city-break.  No need to use annual leave; no need to pack a suitcase; just grab the backpack and go.

This type of cruise day trip is extremely appealing to families with kids.  On cruise ship, there are usually playroom or playground for kids.  Or, just go to the deck, even kids are amazed by the sea, the sunshine, and the seagulls.  I still remember how my toddler was enjoying the deck on a cruise to St. Petersburg.

The cost is not as friendly as sailing to Stockholm.  Maybe because there are so many cruises going to Stockholm?  Flying to Riga is actually cheaper, but cruise is just so much easier.

So, we are off to go in just three days!  I can report back about the trip.
