{"id":39,"date":"2017-03-21T04:38:38","date_gmt":"2017-03-20T19:38:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dxlontheroad.com\/?p=39"},"modified":"2017-03-31T04:55:48","modified_gmt":"2017-03-30T19:55:48","slug":"medical-insurance-in-france","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dxlontheroad.com\/english\/2017\/03\/21\/medical-insurance-in-france\/","title":{"rendered":"Health insurance in France: Social Security (Carte Vitale) and Mutuelle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We came to France in the end of November, 2017. \u00a0At that time, I was already more than four months pregnant. \u00a0We worried about getting health insurance in France, because the work contract is only six months. \u00a0But we came anyway.<\/p>\n<p>One of the first things we did after arriving at Grenoble was making an appointment with the insurance company on campus.\u00a0 For whatever reason (could be a mistake?), they approved our application!\u00a0 That lady gave us a list of documents to be prepared, and asked us to go back in two weeks.\u00a0 One of the requested documents is the birth certificate.\u00a0 Of course, it has to be in French.\u00a0 Therefore, my husband needed to have his family book translated by a court translator.\u00a0 Other documents are easy to prepare.\u00a0 After two weeks, we submitted all the documents to that lady.\u00a0 Things seemed going well.<\/p>\n<p>Another week went by.\u00a0 One day, we received letters from that insurance company.\u00a0 Each of us got a <strong>carte d\u2019adherente<\/strong>, which contains the temporary social security number and the mutuelle number.<\/p>\n<p>At some point, the insurance company requested the birth certificate again.\u00a0 And this time, in addition to my husband\u2019s birth certificate, I also submitted mine, which is prepared in China (translated and legalized).<\/p>\n<p>The insurance company mailed us a few time \u2013 about my pregnancy.\u00a0 They introduced all kinds of benefits we have.\u00a0 They kept us well informed!\u00a0 They have our bank account number, but we did not see any charge \u2013 until about two months after getting the carte d\u2019adherente, we received the bill.\u00a0 It turns out that the first three months is free, and they will start to charge in March.\u00a0 In the same letter, they also included the payment that they made to the hospital and the laboratory from where I received service.\u00a0 Not a penny from our own pocket ~<\/p>\n<p>Ten days after the bill, my husband got a letter, which says he has been assigned a new social security number.\u00a0 So not a temporary number any more.\u00a0 A few days later, another letter came in to request a photo for making the <strong>Carte Vitale<\/strong> (the so called green card).\u00a0 We mailed out the photo as soon as we can.\u00a0 Last Saturday (2~3 weeks after mailing out the photo), we got the card!\u00a0 However, I have not been assigned a new social security number, yet.<\/p>\n<p>So, for my husband, it took like three months to finally get the Carte Vitale.\u00a0 I guess it is fast?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>X<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We came to France in the end of November, 2017. \u00a0At that time, I was already more than four months pregnant. \u00a0We worried about getting health insurance in France, because the work contract is only six months. \u00a0But we came anyway.
