{"id":388,"date":"2017-04-12T21:53:10","date_gmt":"2017-04-12T12:53:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dxlontheroad.com\/english\/?p=388"},"modified":"2017-09-05T16:46:40","modified_gmt":"2017-09-05T07:46:40","slug":"mesa-arch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dxlontheroad.com\/english\/2017\/04\/12\/mesa-arch\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunrise at Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"m_8902242180742206131p1\"><span class=\"m_8902242180742206131s1\">It&#8217;s the second day of our <a href=\"https:\/\/dxlontheroad.com\/english\/2017\/03\/21\/45\/\">Grand Circle<\/a> trip, and we planned to see sunrise at Mesa Arch.<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Since my mom got a little injury in <a href=\"https:\/\/dxlontheroad.com\/english\/2017\/04\/11\/arches\/\">Arches National Park<\/a> the previous day, she didn&#8217;t join us for the sunrise.<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We also thought it&#8217;s better for her to rest more so that she would have energy later.<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>However, it&#8217;s really a pity that she missed the best sunrise in the whole trip!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_8902242180742206131p1\"><span class=\"m_8902242180742206131s1\">The driving from Moab to Mesa Arch, which is in Canyonlands National Park, was about 45min.<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>In order to get a good spot for photography, we got up and hit the road very early (<span class=\"aBn\"><span class=\"aQJ\">4:30am<\/span><\/span>, 2h before the sunrise).<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I kinda remember that I was in the driver&#8217;s seat, so that D (my husband) could rest.<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>After all, I am the one who is crazy about sunrise and sunset!<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It was still dark when we arrived at the trailhead parking area.<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>But don&#8217;t worry &#8211; we had headlights!<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>So prepared!<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The trail was said to be a 0.7 mile loop, so it should be only ~600m to the Mesa Arch.<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>However, it took us a while to figure out which way to go, because the trail was not that obvious (remember? It&#8217;s dark).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_8902242180742206131p1\"><span class=\"m_8902242180742206131s1\">We were among the earliest at Mesa Arch!<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I tested a few spots with my camera, and finally settled down.<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>More and more people came.<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>My spot was probably good, because several tripods were set up besides me.<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We were all quietly waiting for the moment.<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>On the other class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>After a while, the first sunshine came out and lighted up the quiet canyonlands.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_351\" class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The moment has not come yet!<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>People&#8217;s eyes were all on Mesa Arch.<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Slowly, the bottom part of the arch started to turn to a burning orange-red color!<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This magic didn&#8217;t last long, as the sun was rising.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_328\" post-sunrise.<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The sky was already bright.<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We realized that Mesa Arch was right on the cliff edge.<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Overlooking the vast canyonlands was also an unforgettable experience to us.<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Unfortunately, not a good time for photos (against the sun).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_379\" back to hotel, we were quite excited.<span class=\"m_8902242180742206131Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Plus, the breakfast in the hotel (Best Western Plus Canyonlands) was
